The video application/CV has become very popular, and for a good reason. It can be an effective way to capture the recipient’s interest, but it is not always a good idea. Why not?
- It requires a lot of charisma and energy with a video (we’re talking from experience). It’s not very inspiring to watch a video with a vibe of “I just need a job”, where you seem despondent and indifferent. Or often or not it is either too dark or too bright to see anything.
- You need to be very accurate in a very short time, to describe your skills and how they could become an advantage for your future employer. It’s not good enough to explain what education you have and that you are ready to work with, without saying which area of expertise it is related to.
- It would be a good idea to have 3-4 questions prepared that you will answer in the video. It creates a common thread, so you avoid talking about unnecessary things. One of these questions could for example be: “Why should you hire me?”.
- If you have the time, put subtitles on so recipients without sound can keep up.
